Cubs from the Savernake Forest Scout Group were joined by a number of players at their Wednesday Cubs’ evening at the Scout Hut in Burbage recently. The Cubs are part of Wiltshire’s North East District scouting movement and the Scout Group provide scouting activities for young people. The musicians played a number of musical pieces to the delight of the exuberant Cubs seated around the Band.
David Watson explained the musical ensemble and how the typical brass band sound comes from the range of different musical instruments. The Cubs were shown each of the types and shapes of instrument and how each complements one another to create the unique sound of a brass band.
Cubs also took the opportunity to take charge of the baton.
Afterwards, the Cubs were given the opportunity to sit with a musician to test their skills at playing a variety of brass instruments.
