Phoenix Brass celebrated its 26th Annual Dinner and Awards Evening when members, supporters and friends gathered at the Royal British Legion, Hungerford in May 2019.
Mr Roger Dewey toasted absent friends. Ms Caroline Peck, Chairman, Phoenix Brass Band, welcomed the guests of the evening, Councillor Mervyn Hall, Mayor Elect for Marlborough, accompanied by his wife Cath. Councillor Hall, soon to be sworn in as Marlborough’s 707th Town Mayor, spoke of his admiration of the Band and cited the many occasions that the musicians had played at civic functions in Marlborough, including the annual Remembrance Parade. He thanked David Watson and the players for performing at these varied engagements.
Musical Director, Mr Watson announced the awards and Councillor Hall presented the trophies. The Nora Edwards Award was presented to Mrs Suzie Richardson and the George Edwards Award was awarded to Mr Simon Parkin. Mrs Jane Jarvis received the Friends of Phoenix Award. Mr Richard Dolton received the Musical Director’s Award and the Musician of the Year Award was presented to Mr Iain Smith.
