After their success in November the Band were back at Coleford in February for the G.B.B.A Entertainment Contest.  This is where all bands, from the 4th (us) up to Championship Section, play against each other in the same competition.  There is an overall winner, usually a Championship or 1st Section band and then prizes for the highest placed 2nd, 3rd and 4th Section bands. Phoenix gained second prize for the 4th Section and in doing so came higher than a 3rd Section band.  It again was a very good performance after waiting around for about six hours to play.

Sorry about the mix-up over the Quiz Night Concert, but it was out of our hands. However, a good evening was had by all who managed to make it to Froxfield Hall, and congratulations to the quiz winners, “the Lambourn Mob”

Our next event is on the 5th April with a Coffee Morning at Pewsey where you can hear the Training Section play at 10am and the Band at about 10:45am. Well worth a visit.

If you really like to hear Brass Bands then I invite you to join us at the John O’Gaunt College, Hungerford, on 20th April for our Brass Band Festival.   Seven bands, each playing a 30 minute programme, start at 12 noon competing for the Phoenix Cup and other prizes.

There is a real treat at the evening concert when we will be joined by David Morris, a World Champion Whistler, whose amazing talent has to be heard to be believed.  If you can get on the internet you can hear snippets of his work at www.davidmorris-whistler.com.  We look forward to seeing you sometime on 20th April.

Finally, our best wishes to Brian Edwards, Friends of Phoenix member, who recently entered hospital with serious condition but is now on the road to recovery                   David Watson
